Lisa Renee began her CHW career over 30 years ago conducting home visits working to improve birth outcomes in Massachusetts. Early in her career she realized CHW unity was needed to gain better working conditions, equitable pay, appropriate training, and sustainability. In 2001, she joined with other CHWs in Massachusetts to form what later became the Massachusetts Association of Community Health Workers (MACHW), one of the earliest CHW associations. Lisa Renee went on to become MACHW’s inaugural executive director, becoming one of the first CHW executive directors in the nation to be compensated full-time. Since then, she’s held various positions, always working towards promoting, uplifting, and sustaining the CHW workforce which made joining CCHA in 2021 a perfect fit. Lisa Renee’s areas of expertise include CHW leadership enhancement, policy, training, CHW organization development, among others. She believes CHW leadership is crucial to promote equity, social justice and to uplift the unique contributions of CHWs in public health and has contributed to multiple publications focused on the workforce. In addition to MACHW, she is a co-founder of several organizations including the New England CHW Coalition and the National Association of Community Health Workers where she served as a founding board member until August 2022. Lisa Renee has provided leadership to national initiatives, developed widely used CHW curriculum, been honored by many prestigious organizations, and has held presidential appointments.
