What we offer

CHW CORE COMPETENCY

Provides participants with the foundational knowledge necessary to begin work as CHW and provides an avenue to certification eligibility.

This course is by application

  • The Community Health Worker Core Competency Training curriculum provides participants with the foundational knowledge necessary to begin work as Community Health Worker (CHW) and provides an avenue to certification eligibility. After all phases of training have been completed, training participants will be prepared to sit for the South Carolina Community Health Worker Exam (administered by the South Carolina Community Health Worker Association).

HIV MANAGEMENT & PREVENTION

Provides CHWs with resources to help end the epidemic. In collaboration with the Southeast AIDS Education Training Center, USC School of Medicine, and South Carolina Department of Public Health.

This is a 16 hour course

  • In collaboration with the Southeast AIDS Education Training Center, USC School of Medicine, and South Carolina Department of Public Health, this training provides CHWs with resources to help end the epidemic. Lessons covered include HIV prevention, linkage to care, management, and stigma reduction.

ELEVATING SUPERVISORY SKILLS

Designed to help supervisors increase effective and efficient support of their CHWs in the field.

This is a 10 hour course.

  • The Elevating Supervisory Skills Training is designed to help supervisors increase effective and efficient support of their CHWs in the field. This training provides supervisors with the opportunity to develop a better understanding of the critical role of CHWs in the communities they serve, implementation of the CHW model and how to address common challenges when supervising CHWs.

HEALTH & RACIAL EQUITY

Designed to enhance Core Competencies of the CHW workforce in the area of resource navigating, advocacy, research, and communication. 

This is a 6 hour course

  • In this training, learners will enhance Core Competencies of the CHW workforce in the area of resource navigating, advocacy, research, and communication. Lessons covered include understanding the origins and fluidity of race, navigating community resources to create equity, and creating opportunities to affect and sustain change from the individual to the systemic level. This training is made possible by Johnson & Johnson’s Our Race to Health Equity campaign.

NAVIGATING LUPUS

Lessons covered include signs and symptoms of Lupus, testing, and clinical trials.  In collaboration with the American College of Rheumatology.

This is a 6 hour course.

  • This training, presented in collaboration with the American College of Rheumatology, covers Lupus as a chronic disease that disproportionately affects women and racial/ethnic minorities. Lessons covered include signs and symptoms of Lupus, testing, and clinical trials. The training will be facilitated in English. However, resources are are available in English, Spanish, and Simplified Chinese.

INTRODUCTION TO TELEHEALTH

This training is designed to assist CHWs who need learn more about how to guide and navigate their participants through the benefits of telehealth services.

This is a 4 hour course

  • Developed in partnership is Palmetto Care Connection, this training is designed to assist CHWs who need learn more about how to guide and navigate their participants through the benefits of telehealth services. Lessons covered in this training include understanding the history of telehealth, the benefits and barriers, the appropriate times to utilize telehealth, and digital literacy and safety.

PERINATAL HEALTH

Complements the CHW Core Competency Training with specific information and skills for working with families during the perinatal period.

This is a 30 hour course

  • The Perinatal Health training is an interactive course that complements the CHW Core Competency Training with specific information and skills for working with families during the perinatal period (preconception, pregnancy, and up to the infant’s 2nd birthday). This training is offered in the following 6 modules: lifelong and reproductive health; birth outcomes; pregnancy, labor, and infant feeding; perinatal trauma, abuse and neglect, infant care, safety, and postpartum adjustment; and perinatal CHW practices.

DIABETES MANAGEMENT & PREVENTION

Designed to increase knowledge of diabetes with lessons covering pre-diabetes, type I and type II diabetes, and gestational diabetes.

This is a 20 hour course

  • The Diabetes Management and Prevention training is designed to increase knowledge of diabetes with lessons covering pre-diabetes, type I and type II diabetes, and gestational diabetes. The introductory course is a prerequisite. The 4 additional modules of this course are: Mastering Diabetes Medications - A Comprehensive Guide to Diabetes; Fueling Health - The Power of Nutrition and Exercise in Diabetes Management; Guiding Generations - Best Practices for Diabetes Care for All Age Groups; and Cultural Humility - Transforming Diabetes Care for Diverse Communities.

CHWS AND HEART DISEASE

Provides CHWs with skills to help communities learn how to make practical, lasting changes to protect themselves against heart disease.

This is a 16 hour course

  • Developed by the National Institute for Health, The Health Truth® Program Team, and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, this training will provide CHWs with skills to help communities learn how to make practical, lasting changes to protect themselves against heart disease. This training is made available with funding from the SC DPH via The National Cardiovascular Health Program Grant (CDC-RFA-DP-23-004) which is being implemented in partnership with the SC Hospital Association and other partners.

OPIOID MISUSE PREVENTION TRAINING

Highlights the role of CHWs in the effort to reduce the negative impacts of opioid use.

This is a 13 hour course

  • The Opioid Misuse Prevention training highlights the role of community health workers in the effort to reduce the negative impacts of opioid use. Lessons in this training include opioid overdose prevention concepts, treatment and recovery concepts, communications strategies related to stigma, patient privacy considerations, and harm reduction methods.

ORAL HEALTH

Designed to help CHWs to address oral health needs, provide resources and education. In partnership with Oral Health division of South Carolina Department of Public Health & South Carolina Oral Health Action Network.

This is a 6 hour course

  • This training was developed in partnership with Oral Health division of South Carolina Department of Public Health & South Carolina Oral Health Action Network, based on the national curriculum from Smiles for Life. CHWs will be able to address oral health needs, provide resources and education to their participants. Lessons covered include frontline health workers impact on oral health, child and adolescent oral health, and oral health during pregnancy.

GROWING INTO LEADERSHIP

This training provides CHWs with the tools needed to navigate the shift from providing direct service to managing programs, people, and projects.

This is a 10 hour course

  • The Growing into Leadership Training is designed for CHWs who want to enhance their knowledge for opportunities to grow into leadership and supervisory roles. This training provides CHWs with the tools needed to navigate the shift from providing direct service to managing programs, people, and projects.
