Training

Why Choose Us?

CCHA’s training courses are developed and led by experienced CHWs. We use the people's education techniques and participatory learning to build on the individual experiences of our learners. This learning style ensures a more engaging learning environment for all to learn from one another, not just from our facilitators.

  • Our core competency training serves as an experiential learning opportunity that provides learners with the firm foundational knowledge necessary to continue their work as a Community Health Worker. This training also is a step towards South Carolina CHW Certification.  After all phases of core competency training have been completed, learners will be prepared and eligible to sit for the South Carolina Community Health Worker Exam (administered by the South Carolina Community Health Worker Association).

Who is our training for?

As defined by the American Public Health Association, a community health worker is a frontline public health worker who is a trusted member of and/or has an unusually close understanding of the community served.

  • This trusting relationship enables the worker to serve as a liaison/link/intermediary between health/social services and the community to facilitate access to services and improve the quality and cultural competence of service delivery. A community health worker also builds individual and community capacity by increasing health knowledge and self-sufficiency through a range of activities such as outreach, community education, informal counseling, social support and advocacy. Our training is designed for those who already work in this capacity, care about public health from a grassroots level, and have qualities that align with the workforce. However, all are welcome!
